Who are Tony West’s parents?

According Uber, West was born to his parents Franklin Delano West and Margaret “Peggy” Reddick, in 1965. He reportedly grew up in California, then attended Stanford University’s law school, where he’d meet his future wife, Maya Harris – aka Kamala Harris’ sister.

He is Maya Harris’ husband

Maya was a senior adviser to Hillary Clinton in 2016 and later served as Kamala’s campaign chairwoman during her first presidential bid in 2020. Per The Washington Post, Maya quit her job as an MSNBC analyst to volunteer for her sister’s campaign.

They regularly share photos together. In fact, West’s Instagram handle is literally @meenasdad and he puts it in his bio too, writing “a.k.a Meena’s dad, ‘Pop-Pop’ and Maya’s husband”, emphasising his doting father role.

He is a lawyer

He is now the chief legal officer at Uber

West currently works as the senior vice-president, chief legal officer and corporate secretary at Uber, per his profile on the company’s website. The same source writes that he is in charge of the company’s “global legal, compliance and ethics, and security functions”.

According to the BBC, Uber announced in August that he would be taking a leave of absence to spend more time on his sister-in-law’s campaign. “I have always believed family comes first,” he said in a statement. “So I’ve decided to dedicate myself full-time to supporting my family and my sister-in-law on the campaign trail.”

He is a close adviser to Kamala Harris

Earlier this month, West announced that he would be joining Team Harris as a close adviser in the lead-up to the 2024 US presidential election. Per Bloomberg, he said he would not have a formal role or title within the campaign and wouldn’t be paid. “I’ll be acting as a family-member surrogate, one who can speak about the vice-president from the perspective of someone who’s known her for decades,” he said, per the outlet.

He responded to netizens who asked if Maya Harris was single

West knows how to interact with his fellow X users – especially if it involves his wife’s name! When a user on X asked if Maya Harris, West’s wife, was single, a user named Chris Evans replied saying: “No she is not and her husband look like he fight.”

West playfully replied to the thread, writing: “Appreciate you clarifying the situation, Brother Evans. And yes, he fight.”
