Suzuki to Cut Alto Prices with 15% Weight Reduction

Suzuki Motor Corporation has revealed plans to cut the weight of its Alto hatchback by up to 15% over the next decade. This strategic move aims to enhance fuel efficiency and reduce production costs. Currently, the Alto weighs 680 kilograms, but Suzuki’s goal is to lower this by 100 kilograms, resulting in a more economical and environmentally friendly vehicle.

Tatsuya Matsushita, an executive in Suzuki’s automotive technology division, highlighted that reducing the car’s weight would allow for smaller batteries and motors, which in turn could help lower vehicle costs. He noted, “A heavier car requires larger batteries and motors to achieve long-range and high performance. By decreasing the weight, we can optimize the vehicle’s efficiency and reduce costs.”

Suzuki’s analysis suggests that a 200-kilogram reduction in weight could lead to a 20% decrease in energy consumption during the manufacturing phase and a 6% reduction in energy use during vehicle operation. This weight reduction will not only improve fuel efficiency but also contribute to more affordable pricing for consumers.

In addition to weight reduction, Suzuki is focusing on advancing software and driver assistance technologies. These innovations are expected to help reduce traffic congestion and enhance overall driving experience.

Suzuki’s commitment to enhancing vehicle efficiency and affordability underscores its dedication to both environmental sustainability and consumer satisfaction.
