Style Edit: The Labirinti Gucci high jewellery collection is inspired by Italy’s gardens, drawing on nature’s beauty, chaos and symmetry, and welcoming a new motif in the dragonfly

Symmetry and ordered beauty are the pillars of giardini all’italiana, or Italian-style gardens. Creating harmony out of nature’s chaotic beauty was therefore the guiding star for several of the pieces in the Labirinti Gucci collection.

A garden-inspired collection would be impossible without the abundant use of coloured gemstones: in this case, emeralds, tourmaline rubellites in a rich palette of reds, as well as spinels and tsavorites, all come together in a vibrant symphony.

Floral geometry found in the garden mazes of Italy is expressed in a vibrant array of gems

Geometric beauty, a cornerstone of the Labirinti Gucci collection, is central to many of the designs. Evoking linear paths arranged in meticulously devised mazes, they are garlanded with colourful blooms expressed with an array of gems.

One example has a 53.25-carat lagoon tourmaline paired with a 19.68-carat Ethiopian opal, set alongside a linear arrangement of diamonds, mandarin garnets and opals, the ensemble forming a beautiful bib necklace.

Also inspired by geometric splendour is a three-strand necklace accented with Paraiba and darker green tourmalines, embracing a 62.58-carat octagonal-cut Santa Maria aquamarine from Brazil. A pair of matching earrings and a ring, also featuring aquamarines flanked by darker tourmalines, are framed along geometrical lines to evoke mazes and labyrinths.

Taking a leaf, as it were, from the vibrancy of nature, the Labirinti Gucci collection also celebrates a creature that is a frequent visitor to Italian gardens. With gossamer wings and a graceful silhouette, the dragonfly shimmers on a lapel and rests on ears as brooches and earrings.

On one brooch, tanzanites, Paraiba tourmalines and white diamonds are arranged alongside emeralds and fancy diamonds to mimic the dragonfly’s delicacy. Another brooch seemingly catches the insect mid-flight, its emerald wings shimmering on the breeze.

Playing into the chaotic beauty of nature, a mismatched pair of earrings featuring the same dragonfly motif nods to the playfulness of the creature. The pair, featuring a floral stud and a dragonfly ear cuff, flutter past in pink spinels, emeralds and white diamonds.
