Snowfall in the upper regions of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa has intensified the winter chill, with temperatures dipping to sub-zero levels in some areas.
The first snowfall of the season is ongoing in several of the province’s northern areas, while cloudy skies have blanketed the provincial capital, Peshawar, Express News reported.
In the affected areas, including Tirah valley and Chitral, the snow has led to significant disruptions in transportation.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) is working to clear blocked roads and restore access. The temperature in these regions has plunged to below freezing, creating challenges for local communities and travelers alike.
Meanwhile, in Peshawar, while the city is experiencing a cold morning with a recorded temperature of 5°C, the chances of rainfall remain minimal. The weather department has indicated that the city will likely experience cloudy skies throughout the day.
Despite these challenges, tourist activity in accessible areas continues, as people venture into the scenic snow-covered valleys. Authorities are advising caution on roads due to slippery conditions.
Earlier yesterday, Heavy snowfall in Tirah Valley, Chitral, and surrounding areas blanketed the region, transforming it into a picturesque winter wonderland.
In Tirah Valley, trees, homes, and mountains were covered in a thick white sheet of snow, enhancing the natural beauty.
However, locals grappled with disruptions, including road blockages and the increased cold, which affected daily routines.
Chitral and its adjoining areas, including Kalash Valleys, Garam Chashma, Sheshi Koh, and Golen, received between 6 to 8 inches of snow. Chitral town reported 4 inches, while Ayun saw 2 inches of accumulation.
In the Lowari Tunnel area, snowfall reached one foot, with road clearing operations underway. Despite the challenging conditions, passenger vehicles from Peshawar and Islamabad successfully reached Chitral.
Upper Chitral regions such as Yarkhun, Khot, Reech, and Phasti experienced heavier snowfall, impacting inter-district travel and creating difficulties for employees commuting to work.
