Selena Gomez reveals how Benny Blanco designed her dream engagement ring but she almost changed it

In a joint interview with Interview Magazine, Selena Gomez, the 32-year-old Only Murders in the Building star, and her fiancé, 36-year-old record producer Benny Blanco, reminisced about choosing her engagement ring.

Although Gomez had envisioned a marquise-style diamond ever since her 2015 song Good For You—which includes the lyrics, “I’m on my marquise diamonds / I’m a marquise diamond”—she admitted to having second thoughts about the design.

“I just tried not to f—k up,” Blanco joked during their conversation with editor-in-chief Mel Ottenberg after Gomez stated, “That’s the diamond I’ve always dreamed of.”

He elaborated, explaining how she had shown him different designs, and he would subtly drop hints. “I’d be like, ‘Yeah, but if I ever made one, would you want it like this?'”

Blanco also revealed that Gomez had a change of heart midway through the process.

“It used to have huge baguettes on the side and then she was like, ‘I don’t want something that big,’” he recalled.

Gomez responded, “I just think it’s too much,” but Blanco reassured her that “the end result is perfect.”

Because of the design changes, Blanco shared that the extra diamonds wouldn’t go to waste. “Yeah, so now I have extra baguettes and we’re going to make earrings for her. She basically has three wedding rings.”

After dating for a year, Blanco proposed on a set designed to resemble a romantic picnic in Central Park, complete with Taco Bell.

Gomez later announced the engagement on Instagram, sharing a photo of her ring with the caption, “forever begins now..”

Jeweler Claster revealed details about the creation process to Page Six Style, saying, “We started the project earlier this year. Benny, a wonderful creative himself, had specific inspiration, including the center cut, the marquise.”

“We worked closely with multiple approaches before our final ring,” the jeweler added.

“Benny had a very sharp idea of what he ultimately envisioned. We combined it with our Abril Barret sentiment to capture the essence of an heirloom piece with a modern hand.”

In addition to their engagement, the couple has collaborated on a surprise joint album, I Said I Love You First, and released the first single, Scared of Loving You, on Friday.
