Scott Baio’s ongoing rally cry for Trump: the Happy Days star once dated celebs like Brooke Shields and Pamela Anderson – now he’s dissing Kamala Harris and loudly sharing his Maga views
He began his acting career as a teenager
Born in 1960 in Brooklyn, New York, Scott Vincent James Baio is the third child of Italian immigrants Rose and Mario Baio, per the actor’s IMDB bio.
Baio went on to solidify his place in TV history – and heartthrob status – by continuing his portrayal of Chachi in the spin-off series Joanie Loves Chachi, and filling leading roles in Charles in Charge and Diagnosis Murder. His work earned him several accolades, including the Young Artist Award for Best Young Comedian in 1982 and the Best Actor award at the 2006 San Diego International Film Festival.
He dated plenty of celebrities … but is a family man now
In the late 90s, Baio met actress and stuntwoman Renee Sloan at the Playboy Mansion and the two dated briefly. Though they both went on to date other people, they rekindled their romance in 2006. They were married in 2007, with newborn daughter Bailey – as well as Sloan’s 18-year-old daughter from a previous marriage – in attendance, per the Boston Herald.
Per People magazine, Bailey was tested for a rare metabolic disorder, glutaric aciduria type 1, as a baby. After several months of waiting, she was thankfully given a clean bill of health. The Baios went on to start the Bailey Baio Angel Foundation to support families dealing with the disease. Scott Baio has also supported his wife through several health scares over the years, including a 2018 diagnosis of microvascular brain disease.
He’s politically conservative, and vocal about it
Baio’s politics have been a significant aspect of his public life – and he’s shown himself to be a staunch Republican. In a November 2016 tweet on X, he wrote that he campaigned for former president Ronald Reagan – a fellow actor who made the jump to politics – adding, “I’ve campaigned for every GOP since.” Following Reagan’s death in 2004, the New York Daily News quoted Baio as saying, “President Reagan made me feel proud to be an American. Today, I feel sadness.”
Now, Baio appears to be blending his acting career with his politics. His upcoming film, God’s Not Dead: In God We Trust, will explore the relevance of faith in public life and advocate for keeping religious values at the heart of government.
He’s been involved in several controversies
Several individuals from Baio’s past have called out the actor for bad behaviour – so much so that it led to legal action. Per AP, Nicole Eggert, one of Baio’s former co-stars, filed a police report in June 2018 claiming that he’d sexually assaulted her while she was a teenager, on the set of Charles in Charge. Baio denied the allegations and prosecutors ultimately dropped the charges, saying that the statute of limitations had expired. Alexander Polinsky, another child actor on the show, has alleged that Baio assaulted him and inflicted psychological abuse.
