Rs50m allocated for shrine, mosque renovations

The Punjab Auqaf Department has allocated over Rs50 million for the construction and renovation of several shrines and mosques.

The funds include Rs10 million for the renovation of Dargah Shah Chiragh, Rs20 million for the shrine of Shah Sufair in Sohawa and Rs10 million for development work at Jamia Masjid Usmania in Okara.

Additionally, an amount has been allocated for the construction and renovation of the Langar Khana and library at the shrine of Baba Farid in Pakpattan under the Annual Development Plan (ADP) 2025-26.

According to officials, the renovation plan for Dargah Shah Chiragh includes removing old lime plaster from the exterior and carrying out fresco painting work inside the shrine, with an approved cost of Rs10 million.

Similarly, at the shrine of Shah Sufair in Sohawa, Jhelum, construction work is under way of boundary walls around the Langar Khana, along with the renovation of ablution areas and washrooms, with an approved cost of Rs20 million. The project also involves excavation, leveling, dressing and filling around the shrine.

Additionally, Rs10 million has been allocated for development work at Jamia Masjid Usmania in Okara.

Punjab Auqaf Chief Administrator Ehsan Bhutta stated that all projects would be completed soon, providing visitors appropriate facilities while preserving the province’s religious heritage.
