Rapper Nelly to perform at Trump’s Liberty Ball during inauguration

Rapper Nelly, known for his chart-topping hit “Hot In Herre,” is set to perform at Donald Trump’s Liberty Ball on Monday night, celebrating Trump’s second inauguration.

CBS reporter Taurean Small confirmed Nelly’s participation, joining country stars Jason Aldean and Carrie Underwood. Rascal Flatts will perform at another inaugural ball in Washington, D.C. This marks Nelly as the only rapper on the lineup, further highlighting his cross-genre appeal as a self-proclaimed “country music artist.”

Nelly’s 2021 album Heartland reflected his country influences, and he has collaborated with country icons like Tim McGraw on “Over and Over” and Florida Georgia Line on “Cruise.” His country roots align with the event’s predominantly country music roster.

While this move has sparked conversation, Nelly’s connection to MAGA supporters has been questioned. In 2017, he expressed mixed feelings about Trump, stating, “I liked Donald Trump, I did. I just don’t like Donald Trump as my president.” He also critiqued Trump’s leadership style, noting it had affected his long-standing use of Trump hotels.

Fans remain divided on social media, with some pointing to Nelly’s appeal to Trump’s demographic. Others, including actress Yvette Nicole Brown, criticized the rapper for appearing at the event, calling it an endorsement of Trump’s controversial policies.

Despite the backlash, Nelly’s performance at the Liberty Ball is poised to be a key highlight of Trump’s inaugural celebrations, marking another chapter in the rapper’s evolving career and public persona.
