The Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) has decided to call off the petrol pump strike across the country. This move comes as a relief to many, especially tourists stranded in the northern areas. Chairman Abdul Sami Khan announced the decision, emphasizing that the strike had successfully highlighted their concerns. However, he clarified that the strike is only postponed, not fully ended.
Motorcyclists and other commuters faced significant challenges during the strike, which was met with opposition from the government. The authorities in regions like Hazara Division, Punjab, and Malakand took a hard stance. Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners summoned and pressured dealers, leading some to comply with the orders against the strike. In response, the association decided to expel four dealers who didn’t stand firm with the group’s decision.
This one-day strike had a notable impact, as it disrupted daily routines and brought attention to the issues faced by the petrol dealers. The temporary halt to the strike will hopefully lead to constructive dialogue between the dealers and the government to address the ongoing concerns. For now, operations at petrol stations will resume, allowing normalcy to return for travelers and everyday commuters.
