Sindh Food Authority (SFA) has deemed 11 popular packaged snacks as “unfit” for consumption, sparking concerns over food safety. This decision came after the snacks failed rigorous quality tests conducted by the Food Testing Laboratory at the University of Karachi. The tests, which completed on April 19, evaluated samples from 24 products submitted for registration by the company earlier this year.
Among the snacks that did not meet safety and quality standards are some childhood favorites like Slanty Vegetable, Snackers Hot Masala, and Cheese Balls. Other affected items include Twitch Classic, Potato Sticks, and various flavors from the Kai range, such as Korean Hot and Spicy Mala. This news has left many nostalgic snack lovers worried about the safety of these products.
The SFA has swiftly acted by issuing a letter to the company, mandating an immediate recall of these snacks from stores. The letter emphasizes the importance of public health and instructs the company to cease production and sales of the affected items. They also required to provide the SFA with detailed information about the stock’s location and quantity within three days.
For the company, there is an opportunity to appeal this order within a week if they believe the decision is unjust. As the situation develops, many consumers are eagerly awaiting the company’s response to these alarming revelations about their beloved snacks.
