Lionel Messi is popular both on the field and off. Need proof? Just check out his follower count. The Argentine soccer star is hailed a hero in his homeland and it shows.
And the 2022 FIFA World Cup all but cemented his soccer-god status, increasing his follower count to more than 400 million.
A photo he shared after Argentina won the coveted trophy (left) is also now the most-liked photo on Instagram, clocking up 65 million ‘likes’ and counting.
It overtook a photo of an egg posted in 2019 as the most-liked on the platform.
The “World Record Egg” account was created with the intention of overtaking Kylie Jenner as the owner of the most-liked Instagram post, and has now been usurped by the football legend.
