The Punjab government has announced a raise in the minimum monthly wage for workers and laborers to 37,000 rupees. This decision, spearheaded by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, marks a pivotal step towards enhancing economic stability and ensuring fair compensation for laborers across the province.
Effective immediately, the minimum wage for unskilled laborers has increased from 32,000 rupees to 37,000 rupees per month. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz underscored the importance of extending this minimum wage provision to all daily wage and unskilled workers, emphasizing their fundamental right to fair remuneration.
The government’s notification specifies that for an 8-hour workday, the daily wage will set at 1,423.07 rupees. This move aligns with the current fiscal budget and reflects the Punjab government’s commitment to supporting its labor force.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif affirmed, “It is our duty to safeguard the rights of every laborer in the province.” She further directed immediate consultation with stakeholders to ensure effective implementation and enforcement of the revised minimum wage.
Addressing concerns over wage discrepancies, the Chief Minister expressed dismay over instances where workers deprived of their rightful earnings, particularly highlighting issues within domestic labor sectors. She stressed the stringent adherence to workplace protocols and guidelines to uphold worker rights effectively.
