Minecraft to get it’s own animated series at Netflix
Netflix has partnered with Mojang Studios, the creators of Minecraft, to develop a new animated series based on the popular video game. The announcement, which included a teaser trailer, was made during the celebration of Minecraft’s 15th anniversary.
The series will feature an original story with new characters and will be produced by WildBrain Studios, the animation studio behind shows like “Carmen Sandiego” and “Sonic Prime”. No release date has been announced yet.
Minecraft is the best-selling video game of all time, with over 300 million copies sold worldwide. This is not the first attempt at a Minecraft animated series on Netflix. In 2018, Netflix partnered with Telltale Games on an interactive series titled “Minecraft: Story Mode,” but the project was eventually discontinued.
This new Minecraft series is part of a growing trend of video game adaptations making their way to streaming services and big screens. Recent successful examples include adaptations of Super Mario Bros. and The Last of Us.
