Met Department’s Flood Warning Systems Gets Stolen in Rawalpindi – Startup Pakistan – World Pakistan

Thieves recently targeted the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s water level gauging station in Rawalpindi, making off with vital equipment used for monitoring floods.

The stolen items, as reported by electronic engineer Usman Shahzad in the FIR, include batteries, float sensor assemblies, Arduino and GSM boards with SIM cards, a 12-volt solar panel, copper cables, and a steel box.

This theft not only disrupts the department’s ability to monitor water levels effectively but also highlights the vulnerabilities of critical infrastructure in disaster preparedness.

The incident raises concerns about the security measures in place to protect such essential equipment and the broader implications for flood monitoring and response capabilities in the region. Ensuring the safety and functionality of these systems is crucial for timely and accurate flood warnings, which are vital for protecting lives and property.
