Meet Carey Hart, Pink’s motocross legend husband: her ‘muse’ of 18 years calls himself ‘a Republican who hates Trump’ – but why did he get backlash for his parenting?

Motocross legend Carey Hart, who is married to rock star Pink (real name: Alecia Moore), just celebrated his 49th birthday. His wife did not hold back her appreciation and adoration for him on Instagram – but not without poking fun at him too. Calling him “frustrating, sarcastic, gorgeous” and praising how he has gone “to the ends of the earth for this crazy family”, the Grammy award-winning artist announced, “We love you Carebear. We see you. You’re really amazing. Happy birthday.”

Hart, on the other hand, spent his birthday making the trip to Irvine and back for a podcast, he wrote on his Instagram, and is currently gearing up for the 2024 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Although busy, he still finds time for his family. Just recently, he took his children, 13-year-old Willow Sage and seven-year-old Jameson Moon, on a fishing trip in Santa Barbara.

Hart glibly describes himself as a “father, husband, idiot” – but what else do we know about the man who became the face of freestyle motocross after successfully executing the first-ever backflip on a 250cc dirt bike in a competition in the 90s?

What is Carey Hart and Pink’s relationship like?

Pink and Hart may be #couplegoals today, but it took two separations to get there, and therapy and marriage counselling to stay there. The pair first met in 2001 at the Summer X Games in Philadelphia. Hart told People back in 2006: “I knew within the first few weeks after meeting her that I wanted to be with her for the rest of my life.” They broke up in 2003, but got back together a year later, and Pink proposed to Hart in the middle of a race in 2005. The couple got married in 2006.

Both Hart and Pink have been very open about their marriage troubles in the past and how their ability to stand the test of time comes down to “couples’ counselling. Learning how to speak the same language, ‘cause we don’t speak the same language … We both have therapy, individually, and we do couples counselling. Long-term relationships are not easy”, Pink told People.

Carey Hart has countless scars – both mental and physical

Hart has sustained innumerable injuries, including broken bones and fractures that he “stopped counting when he got into the 80s”, he said, per Revolver magazine – but he’s still determined to continue with his career. Over the last few years alone, he’s had a lower spine disc replacement and neck surgery. Last year, he also fought off an infection, which left him with a catheter in his chest for a few days, but he quickly recovered.

However, Hart has also dealt with more than just his physical strife, and has opened up about post-concussion syndrome in the past, as well as about dealing with stress and anxiety, he said on YouTube channel Real Ones with Jon Bernthal.

Carey Hart is Pink’s “muse” – but not all her songs about him are positive

Pink famously called Hart her “muse” during her 2023 iHeartRadio Music Awards acceptance speech, adding, “If he loved me perfectly I would have nothing to say.”

Many of her songs have been about their relationship – but not all of them are lovey-dovey. “So What”, “I Don’t Believe You” and “Just Give Me a Reason” are just a few examples.

How does Carey Hart parent his kids?

While fans have mostly praised Hart for being a good father, he has also faced backlash for some of his choices – such as riding a dirt bike with 23-month-old Jameson, per E! Online, or teaching his kids how to shoot guns. About the latter, he explained, “I’m raising the kids with knowledge of firearms, how to handle them, shoot them, store them and avoid them in uneducated hands,” per People.

What does Carey Hart do outside of motocross?

In addition to being a former FMX athlete, Hart is also a businessman. He owns House beer, a premium craft lager brand that he acquired last year to help “restart production and bring the brand back to its former glory”.

He also founded Hart & Huntington Tattoo Co., a tattoo company with studios in Las Vegas, Orlando, Nashville and Niagara; and the Good Ride motorcycle charity ride, which gives back to causes that are of significance to Hart, including to veterans of America. He is also a V-twin bike builder for Indian Motorcycle, and is an ambassador for Mips, a company that makes helmets for athletes.
