LHC benches to take up Imran’s pleas on 20th

LAHORE:

The LHC has scheduled PTI founding chairman Imran Khan’s petition — challenging the Punjab cabinet’s decision to register fresh serious cases against him and other party leaders — for hearing on June 20 by a new bench.

The newly formed two-judge bench, headed by Justice Aalia Neelum, will take up the matter. The Punjab government and others have been made respondents in the plea.

Last month, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s cabinet approved the initiation of ‘fresh legal action’ against Imran and other party leaders for their purported involvement in crafting a ‘narrative of hate’ against state institutions.

Imran in his petition argued that the cases were “unlawful and unconstitutional” as he and his party leaders were “falsely accused”.

Disqualification, Bat

The LHC has constituted a new larger bench to hear the PTI founder Imran Khan’s plea against his disqualification in a gift repository case as well as the PTI petition against the ECP’s decision to strip it of its iconic election symbol of the cricket bat.

The bench will hear the PTI’s appeals from June 20.
