Keith Urban will headline CBS’s upcoming music competition series The Road, set to debut this fall.
The show, which aims to discover emerging musical talent, will feature Urban performing at various venues across Texas, Tennessee, and Oklahoma. Participants will compete for a chance to remain on the tour by winning over local audiences, who will have a say in which artists continue with the headlining act.
Urban, who has vast experience in live performance, is no stranger to the world of reality television. He previously served as a judge on American Idol and a coach on the Australian version of The Voice. Reflecting on his early years, Urban shared that he spent much of his underage life performing in small, low-key venues, sometimes for just a bartender. “I love the idea of throwing artists into a real-world environment to find out if they are artists,” he stated. “Paying your dues sucks, but there are things in this business that can’t be taught, like how to put together a set list or how to work the crowd.”
The series will not only showcase Urban’s performances but will also follow emerging artists as they support him on stage, hoping to win the crowd’s favor. The performances will take place at various iconic venues, with free tickets available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Scheduled dates include stops in cities like Dallas, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Memphis, and Nashville, with Urban concluding the tour at the renowned Ryman Auditorium.
Produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, David Glasser’s 101 Studios, and Lucky Horseshoe Productions, The Road will also feature executive producers Blake Shelton and Taylor Sheridan. Urban, who released his album High last September, will embark on his High and Alive World Tour in May.
The Road will premiere in the fall.
