Karahi, Pulao, Qorma, and More
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has ordered an upgrade to the menu in Punjab jails to provide better food quality for prisoners, now featuring a variety of chicken dishes. According to Inspector General (IG) Jails Mian Farooq Nazir, the chicken will be served seven times a week, with dishes like qorma, pulao, and karahi added to the menu.
IG Nazir explained that the updated menu aims to provide 2800 to 3000 calories per day to prisoners. To enhance the flavor and nutritional value of the food, 25 percent more onions, ginger, and tomatoes have been added to the curry gravies. Additionally, Kasuri fenugreek is now included to improve the taste.
Previously, chicken was served six times a week. The new menu was designed with input from experts to ensure it meets the necessary caloric requirements. This initiative reflects a commitment to improving the living conditions of prisoners in Punjab jails by providing them with nutritious and flavorful meals.
