Jack Black responds to Melbourne students’ invitation to watch ‘School of Rock’ performance

Hollywood actor Jack Black recently responded to an invitation from students at Ringwood Secondary College in Melbourne, Australia, who asked him to attend their performance of “School of Rock: The Musical.” Black, 54, was invited as the students learned that he would be in Melbourne for his band Tenacious D’s Australian tour.

The students’ online plea quickly gained traction, eventually catching the attention of Black. In a heartfelt video message, he expressed his enthusiasm: “Ringwood Secondary College, you’re doing School of Rock?! I love it! I’m so touched, so moved by your video and the fact that you’re going to rock.”

Reflecting on the movie’s lasting impact, he added, “You know it’s been 20 years since I made that movie? It’s still my favorite movie I ever did, and I love that you guys are going to rock it.”

However, Black regretfully informed the students that he would not be able to attend their rehearsals due to his busy schedule. “But I just wanted to remind you that there’s no way you can stop the School of Rock!” he said, bursting into song.

The invitation originated from a video shared by the school’s production director, Lauren Rowe, on Sammy J’s ABC show. In the video, the students formally invited Black to “pop by one of our rehearsals during the time you’re here so we can give you some unfinished homework as part of that rock assignment.”

The students concluded their message by chanting Black’s name and begging him to attend. They shared his video response on their Instagram page, delighting their followers.

Tenacious D is scheduled to perform at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena on July 20 as part of their Spicy Meatball Tour, with additional shows in Sydney, Newcastle, Brisbane, and Adelaide. The tour will conclude in Auckland and Wellington, New Zealand, at the end of July.
