In addition, River Edge offers services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.River Edge is actively seeking a Full-time Health Service Technician to join our Adult Crisis unit or Child Adolescent Unit. In this role, you will be responsible for attending to clients’ needs by listening to their concerns, observing their behavior, and ensuring their comfort and safety. Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Monitors vital signs and promptly communicates findings to nursing staff.
  • Assists with personal hygiene tasks including bathing, grooming, shaving, and dressing as necessary.
  • Prepares clients for medical treatments or examinations as directed.
  • Provides feeding assistance to clients who are unable to feed themselves.
  • Supports clients in mobility activities such as walking, exercising, and transferring in and out of bed.
  • Safely transports clients to different unit areas, utilizing wheelchairs when necessary.
  • Facilitates recreational and social activities for clients.
  • Observes and accurately documents patient data, behavior, and activities.
  • Always ensures the safety and security of clients.
  • Safely operates company vehicles and maintains Defensive Driving certification if required.
  • Delivers group training sessions to clients, educating them on wellness and recovery tools when assigned.
  • Assists with the admission and discharge processes as needed.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least one (1) year experience working with behavioral health clients (mental health, substance abuse, developmental disabilities).
  • Ability to identify patient limitations and adapt care accordingly to ensure patient comfort and safety.
  • Proficiency in body mechanics, including lifting, standing, and turning, to prevent injury during patient movement.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures for moving patients, minimizing risks, and maintaining a safe environment.
  • Capability to identify and assess bedsores and promptly report their onset for appropriate intervention.
  • Skill in monitoring and accurately reporting client behavior, recognizing significant changes indicative of potential issues.
  • All applicants must pass a satisfactory background clearance and pre-employment drug test.
  • Provide 2 Professional references (Former employers only, no family members).

Competencies:

  • Medical Assistance: Proficiency in taking vital signs, preparing clients for medical treatments/examinations, and providing feeding assistance.
  • Documentation Skills: Ability to accurately observe and document patient data, behavior, and activities.
  • Mobility Assistance: Skill in assisting clients with mobility activities, including walking, exercising, and transferring.
  • Communication: Effective communication skills to report findings to nursing staff, interact with clients, and deliver group training sessions.
  • Empathy and Compassion: Demonstrated empathy and compassion in providing personal care and supporting clients’ emotional well-being.
