Farewell to Lui Che-woo: Hong Kong and Macau honour legendary tycoon
Dozens of politicians and business leaders in Hong Kong and Macau bid farewell to Lui Che-woo, the legendary property and casino tycoon who died on November 7 at the age of 95.
The memorial service for Lui was held at the Hong Kong Funeral Home in North Point at 3pm on Wednesday.
A public memorial service will take place on Thursday, after which his body will be transferred to the Hong Kong Buddhist Cemetery for burial.
Lui rose from humble beginnings selling peanuts and snacks to become one of Asia’s richest tycoons with a portfolio of hotels, casino resorts and properties in Hong Kong and Macau. He founded developer K. Wah group in 1995 and won a casino licence in Macau in 2002 through Galaxy.
More than 100 dignitaries from Hong Kong and Macau have established the funeral committee, according to a tribute published on Tuesday.
