Experts outline proposals for sustainable growth

National and international experts at the concluding session of a two-day conference titled “CPEC Energy Infrastructure and Socio-Economic Changes: Challenges, Opportunities, and Sustainable Development” presented key recommendations to address environmental challenges and promote sustainable growth along the CPEC route.
The conference, organised at the Sindh Agriculture University (SAU) Tando Jam in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Xi’an Jiaotong University of China, focused on various facets of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), including its energy infrastructure and socio-economic impact.
Among the major recommendations, the speakers emphasised the urgent need for implementing stringent environmental regulations to mitigate the negative effects of coal mining in Tharparkar. They underscored the importance of reviewing and managing groundwater quality along CPEC’s coastal route.
Additionally, the conference highlighted the necessity of continuing efforts for agricultural and livestock development under CPEC initiatives in Sindh, particularly through climate-smart methods to enhance food security.
