Developing | China launches antitrust probe into Google in response to Trump tariffs
China has launched an antitrust investigation into Google alongside retaliatory tariffs after the US imposed 10 per cent tariffs on products from the country.
China’s State Administration for Market Regulation said it initiated the probe into the US internet search giant on suspicion of violations of the country’s antitrust laws, according to a one-line announcement on the regulator’s website on Tuesday. It appeared to be part of a response to the tariffs imposed by the administration of US President Donald Trump. The regulator did not identify the alleged violations.
