Armie Hammer is attempting a Hollywood comeback with his latest role in The Dark Knight, a vigilante thriller directed by Uwe Boll, widely regarded as one of the industry’s most polarizing filmmakers.
Despite sharing its name with Christopher Nolan’s iconic Batman film, the project is unrelated to the DC superhero franchise, according to Variety.
This marks Hammer’s first major film project in four years following accusations of sexual misconduct and cannibalistic behavior that derailed his career in 2020. Hammer’s reputation had fallen to such depths that he was considered “unhireable,” much like Kevin Spacey after his own controversies.
In The Dark Knight, Hammer will portray the titular character, a crime-fighting vigilante in what’s described as a grittier, offbeat take on the superhero archetype. The choice of title has raised questions about whether Warner Bros. will challenge its usage.
The film’s director, Uwe Boll, is infamous for producing critically panned movies, often earning ratings as low as 4% on Rotten Tomatoes.
