APC to discuss Operation Azm-e-Istehkam for peace, prosperity of Pakistan: Khawaja Asif

ISLAMABAD:

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said the government decided to convene an All Parties Conference (APC) to discuss Operation Azm-e-Istekham, aimed at eliminating terrorism and fostering lasting peace and prosperity for the people of Pakistan.

Speaking in an interview on a local news channel on Tuesday, Asif urged opposition parties to engage in comprehensive dialogue with the government to effectively address crucial national security issues.

He emphasised the necessity of such discussions for national progress, noting ongoing intelligence-based operations across various regions and the sacrifices made by the country’s armed forces.

“We have achieved significant successes in our fight against terrorism,” Asif asserted, underscoring the nation’s and political parties’ support for Operation Azm-e-Istekham.

Regarding the behavior of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership, Asif commented on the government’s offer to engage in talks with PTI, which was rebuffed by the party’s leaders in addressing political issues.

Responding to a query about phone call monitoring, Asif highlighted past statements by PTI’s founder supporting call monitoring for security reasons, contrasting it with the leader’s current criticisms of the practice.

“We invite PTI and other opposition parties to join us in constructive dialogue for the betterment of Pakistan,” Asif concluded, affirming the government’s commitment to inclusive and productive discussions on national security and other pressing matters.
