Putting clients first, fostering optimism, ensuring financial security and living a healthy life – these principles have shaped Lachman Balani’s lifelong career as a financial planner with Sun Life, inspiring others along the way.
Balani joined Sun Life in 1978, initially seeking stability in his working life. What he found, however, was a company that shared his values and offered him a platform to grow.
“When I started, it was clear that Sun Life was different,” he recalls.
“There was a personal touch – you were treated as an individual, not just a number. If I had an issue, I could speak directly with the CEO. That kind of approach made all the difference.”
During his early years, Balani’s consistent efforts brought remarkable results. Between 1978 and 1981, he contributed over 60 per cent of the company’s new sales. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the industry, he was honored with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020, bestowed by The Asia Trusted Life Agents and Advisers Awards. Yet, for Balani, this was never about personal recognition.
“The awards I’ve received belong to my clients,” he says. “They are the ones who trusted me to guide them.”
For Balani, financial planning is rooted in building genuine relationships.
