Who is Eddie Murphy’s Aussie model wife Paige Butcher? She shares 2 kids with the SNL alum, isn’t interested in acting or social media and the pair just got married in Anguilla
Clearly, 2024 is turning out to be a great year for the Meet Dave star. Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, the fourth instalment of Murphy’s famed Beverly Hills Cop film series, came out earlier this month and is already the most-watched film on Netflix worldwide, clocking in 41 million views in its opening week.
Butcher, on the other hand, has maintained a lower profile. Here’s everything to know about the new Mrs Murphy.
Paige Butcher started modelling at seven
Butcher’s big break came when she won the 1994 Cover Girl cosmetics supermodel search and signed with IMG. This took her from Perth to New York and, 10 years later, she was on the cover of Maxim.
During this time, she was also taking on small acting roles, such as Something’s Gotta Give (2003) and Big Momma’s House 2 (2006) – where she met Murphy on set. But Butcher has not acted since, and told Vanity Fair that she was “not really” interested in it.
She is close to her step-kids
Eddie has 10 children with five women, and his two youngest kids are with Butcher. His oldest child, Eric Murphy, is nine years younger than his new wife. In 2018, People reported that, per a source, she is “very close with Eddie’s kids” and she has made several public appearances with them.
Most recently, Butcher was seen at the world premiere of Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F with Eddie and his daughters Bria, Shayne Audra, and Bella Murphy. She has also supported Bria at her art shows.
Why isn’t she on social media?
Butcher’s social media journey was short-lived, to say the least. She had a Facebook account for a year, moved on to Instagram, left both, then went over to Twitter (now X) and ultimately deleted them all. She told Vanity Fair, “I’m in a relationship with a celebrity, so I felt like there’s already enough of me out there … I like to keep as much private as possible now.”
She’s fond of house repairs and charity work
Butcher has a passion for home repair. In her Vanity Fair interview, she revealed how she has “laid electrical … made brick paving paths and walls, laid drywall, hung doors, doorframes” and that for her, “it’s very therapeutic”. She picked up her building hobby from her time working with Habitat for Humanity.
Butcher is very involved with charity work, and has been volunteering for over a decade now, working with New York Cares, Kids Enjoy Exercise Now, Baby2Baby, Wheels for Humanity and more. She has volunteered at homeless shelters and nursing homes and, according to her father Robert Butcher, has done a lot of work in New York with “disabled children, taking aged people shopping, working in pet refuges and helping build houses for the needy”. Butcher also told The West Australian that she wants to “return to Perth one day to open an animal refuge”.
