In a recent development, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) in Pakistan has increased the fees for the attestation of legal documents, effective from July 8, 2024. This move has added to the financial burden on citizens seeking to get their documents attested.

MOFA Documents Attestation New Charges

The new charges for document attestation are significantly higher than the previous rates. Here is a detailed comparison:

Type of Document New Attestation Fee Old Attestation Fee
Personal & Educational Rs. 3,000 Rs. 500
Legal Rs. 4,500 Rs. 700
Commercial Rs. 12,000 Rs. 3,000

Online System and Liaison Offices

The Foreign Office spokesperson announced that the Ministry has resumed the attestation of educational documents, legal papers, and commercial documents starting from July 8, 2024. Pakistanis can now use the MOFA online system for attestation of legal documents. Additionally, liaison offices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including those in Lahore and Karachi, are available for document attestation.

No Prior Appointments Required

In a bid to streamline the process, MOFA has abolished the requirement for prior appointments for document attestation. This change is expected to facilitate citizens by reducing the time and effort needed to get their documents attested.

Validity of Attestation

It is important to note that the attestation of documents by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is valid for six months. Therefore, citizens are advised to ensure their documents are attested again if not used within this period.
