Karachi, 6th July – The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee convened today to sight the moon for the Islamic month of Muharram. Following their observations, it has been confirmed that the moon has not been sighted.
1st Muharram will be observed on monday, 8th July 2024, across Pakistan. This will mark the start of the Islamic New Year, 1446 AH (Anno Hegirae).
The month of Muharram holds significant importance in the Islamic calendar. It is one of the four sacred months during which warfare is forbidden. The 10th day of Muharram, known as Ashura, is particularly notable for Muslims worldwide, commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (RA), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), in the Battle of Karbala.
In light of the moon sighting, religious scholars and leaders have urged the nation to observe the month with respect, reflection, and prayers. Special prayers and events will be held in mosques and religious centers throughout the country.
The government has also emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and security during this period, particularly during Ashura, when large processions and gatherings are expected. Security forces will be deployed to ensure the safety of all participants and to prevent any untoward incidents.
As Pakistan ushers in the new Islamic year, the nation is reminded of the values of peace, unity, and compassion. The sighting of the Muharram moon heralds a time of spiritual reflection and community solidarity.
