Blockstar, one of the alleged killers of rapper Pop Smoke, discussed the 2020 murder in a new interview with No Jumper. The suspect, who was a juvenile at the time, expressed no remorse for his actions during the interview on July 4.
“I’m not sorry about nothing,” Blockstar stated. “It should’ve never happened, but I ain’t sorry. If I could go back, I’d go back. But I ain’t sorry. People die every day. [Pop Smoke] was rapping about it. All types of stuff. So, I ain’t sorry about it. I send my condolences to the family. I wish it never happened. But I don’t regret nothing.”
Blockstar further explained his lack of remorse, saying, “Growing up, my people, my family told me, ‘You ain’t sorry for nothing. Whatever you did, you did it for a reason and stand on it.’”
Pop Smoke was killed during a home invasion in Los Angeles. Blockstar was one of four people charged in connection with the murder, three of whom were minors at the time and were sentenced as juveniles. Corey Walker, the only defendant charged as an adult, is awaiting trial.
Blockstar insisted that the murder was not premeditated. “It was a robbery,” he said. “Nobody sent us. Nobody did none of that. That’s all false information.”
He claimed there was no intention to kill Pop Smoke and that they did not expect anyone to be home. “Nobody was intended to get hurt,” he said. “We were just kids being kids—kids from the hood. There was too much movement, too much going on. It wasn’t intentional.”
Blockstar, who has served a few years in jail, remarked that his sentence was too light, though he did not specify what a more appropriate punishment would have been.
