Whoopi Goldberg apologizes for controversial comment about Trump, Musk, and J.D. Vance
Whoopi Goldberg, co-host of The View, issued an on-air apology Thursday after making controversial remarks suggesting Vice President-elect J.D. Vance and Elon Musk might want to harm President-elect Donald Trump.
Her comments came during a discussion about Musk’s influence in government and Trump’s political maneuvers.
During the segment, Goldberg humorously warned, “Hey, you know who: stay away from the stairways,” alluding to the idea of someone tripping Trump. The quip drew laughter but sparked backlash online. After a commercial break, Goldberg clarified her comments, attributing the metaphor to her personal experience. “My cat lays in wait for me on my stairs all the time, and that’s what I was referring to,” she explained.
Goldberg further emphasized that her statement was not meant to suggest any violent intent from Musk or Vance. “The thing about this show: There is no way not to step in poo,” she added, lightheartedly acknowledging the misstep. Fellow co-host Sunny Hostin also clarified, saying, “No one wants anything done to the president.”
The conversation arose amidst tensions regarding Musk’s criticisms of a proposed government funding bill and his growing political influence. Goldberg remarked, “I think Elon Musk believes he’s president,” a sentiment echoed by Joy Behar, who joked about Musk’s and Vance’s alleged ambitions.
The controversy underscores the charged atmosphere surrounding political commentary. Despite Goldberg’s clarification, her remarks continue to draw significant attention and debate.
