New Rates Effective September 2024
Karachi Water and Sewerage Board approved a significant 23% increase in water and sewerage bills. This decision comes amidst a broader rise in utility expenses for Karachi residents.
The hike, effective next month, consists of a 14% rise in water charges and a 9% increase in sewerage fees. This move aims to address the growing financial demands of municipal services but has faced strong criticism from Jamaat-e-Islami. Saifuddin Advocate, a leader in the Karachi City Council, condemned the increase, calling it unacceptable and criticizing the board for its perceived failure to deliver essential services.
In addition to the water and sewerage rate hikes, Karachi residents will also see a new municipal tax added to their electricity bills. This adjustment further intensifies the financial burden on citizens already struggling with rising costs.
