According to Taste of Country, an anonymous netizen claimed that Bryan was an example of someone who wasn’t disciplined as a child. “Zach Bryan is what happens when you don’t discipline your kids,” they shared. The Prime Time Country Music Instagram account then re-shared the comment alongside a photo of Bryan’s September 2023 arrest.

Bryan took the re-share personally, and posted it on his Instagram Stories, writing: “Why are you calling yourself a country music social site and saying s*** like this on it. As Nashville as it gets.”

“I pray you pieces of trash that don’t even have your name attached to these accounts know how much worse the world is with you in them,” he added. “Don’t ever insult my parents, don’t ever insult anyone’s parents.”

He has since deactivated or deleted his page. Here’s what we know about his parents:

According to People magazine, Zach Bryan was born on May 5, 1989, in Okinawa, Japan, while his dad Dewayne was in the US navy. His parents then raised him and his older sister MacKenzie Bryan Taylor in Oologah, Oklahoma, per the outlet.

Zach’s father worked as a master chief mechanist’s mate for almost 24 years before he retired, according to People. “I am a Christian man, a dad, and a husband who works hard, believes in my fellow man, and love to eat and cook steak and BBQ,” Dewayne writes on his LinkedIn profile. “My passion is in service to others and cooking the best burnt meat around.”

Zach’s late mother, meanwhile, has been described by the singer as “an Oklahoma sweetheart, homecoming queen cheerleader” and “like a small-town freaking famous person almost,” in an interview he gave to The New York Times.

According to The New York Times, Zach’s parents split up when he was about 12 years old. People magazine notes that his dad remarried a nurse and clinical research coordinator named Anna Rodgers.

Zach’s family members have always been supportive of him, with his grandfather reportedly being the one who bought him his first guitar. “Zachary’s always had this ‘jump off a cliff and build his wings on the way down’ attitude,” his dad Dewayne previously told Tulsa World. “Sometimes it’s frustrating, but I think he’s maintained it through this.”

Zach lost his mother Annette in 2016, reports People. She was just 49-years-old at the time. She reportedly struggled with alcohol and Dewayne was given full custody of their children after their divorce – however Zach has often said he was still close with his mother.

He named his first studio album, DeAnn, in honour of her in 2019. “She always just believed in me a lot. She knew me more than anybody,” he said, per People. “I think if I had a few things to say to her, they’d probably be in a few of those songs that are on DeAnn.”
