Karachi To Get 50 New Electric Buses Soon

In a significant move towards sustainable urban transportation, the Sindh Cabinet has given the green light for the operation of 50 electric buses in Karachi. This initiative marks a pivotal step in reducing the city’s carbon footprint and improving public transport efficiency.

Provincial Minister Sharjeel Memon announced that the Sindh government will bear the rental costs for these electric buses. After eight years, these eco-friendly vehicles will become the property of the Sindh government, contributing to the long-term sustainability of Karachi’s transport system.

The Cabinet has sanctioned an initial rental payment of PKR 412.5 million for the first six months. Moving forward, the government will allocate PKR 825 million annually over the next seven years to cover the ongoing rental costs.

Currently, these 50 electric buses are serving passengers across three major routes in Karachi. This deployment is part of a broader strategy to enhance public transportation and reduce the city’s reliance on fossil fuels.

The introduction of these electric buses is a milestone in Karachi’s journey towards a cleaner and more efficient public transport network. The Sindh government’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure is expected to set a precedent for other cities in Pakistan.
