5 chic, limited-time summer afternoon tea sets in Hong Kong you shouldn’t miss

As the summer weather in Hong Kong flips from sizzling hot to thunderous downpour, there’s no better way to escape the vicissitudes of the season than to take an afternoon break in a cosy, lavish setting replete with culinary delights and spectacular views.

Afternoon tea in Hong Kong is a well-established tradition and this summer, some of the city’s most prestigious hotels have launched special afternoon tea sets for the season – many in collaboration with luxury brands, adding a chic twist to the classic high tea.

Here are five not to miss before the summer’s over.

1. The Drawing Room, The St Regis Hong Kong

The Drawing Room is aiming to raise the traditional afternoon tea experience to new heights in partnership with esteemed champagne house Perrier-Jouët. The set features a series of sweet and savoury delights presented in an elegant tiered tray, each meticulously crafted to echo the exquisite flavours of the maison’s Blason Rosé Champagne. From the delicate foie gras rose to the rosé champagne-infused panna cotta topped with white peach compote, every bite promises a new discovery.

2. Garden Lounge, The Murray

Over in Central, The Murray has teamed up with Finnish design house Marimekko for a limited-time Unikko Forever afternoon tea set. The restaurant is showcasing Marimekko’s iconic Unikko print in both the decor and the crockery. Edible highlights include Nordic delicacies like the Norwegian smoked salmon cube with chive crème fraîche and caviar, and Finnish haddock with herring roe on blini, as well as sweet pastries like pistachio creme cake.

Each guest will receive an exclusive Marimekko tote bag (while stocks last) and a discount voucher. Grab them before summer fades away.

3. Cafe 103, The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong

Not to be outdone in the fashion stakes, The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong, has partnered with Lanvin to present a special Summer Wardrobe Afternoon Tea. Inspired by the French fashion house’s haute couture collections, the dessert menu crafted by Café 103 pays homage to Lanvin’s fashion aesthetics. The tonka bean passion fruit chocolate cake takes inspiration from the brand’s Cat Pencil Boxes, while the coconut lemon cookie is a playful nod to Lanvin’s iconic ballerina shoes. Savoury nibbles include a smoked salmon and horseradish cream macaron and a coconut milk crab rillette cannoli.

As an added sweetener, each guest will receive an exclusive HK$800 gift voucher they can use at Lanvin stores in Hong Kong.

At the W Hong Kong, Woobar is bringing the refreshing and vibrant flavours of Southeast Asia to Hong Kong courtesy of its Tropical Tango tea set. If you’re a durian enthusiast, the Musang King durian cake is a must-try. The menu also features exotic dishes such as the calamansi-pomelo Alaskan crabmeat salad basket, the foie gras terrine with vanilla pineapple chutney, and the Thai mango with pandan sticky rice. Embrace the summer vibes and enjoy this special tea set at one of Hong Kong’s chicest venues.

5. Salisterra, The Upper House

The Upper House has teamed up with Net-a-Porter for an exclusive high tea amid the clouds. Drawing inspiration from the luxury e-tailer’s Turn Up the Heat campaign, the menu features an array of refreshing bites such as the citrus-cured trout with salmon roe and orange tart, and Parmesan biscuit with tête de moine and onion marmalade. The ruby peach and vanilla choux combine the subtle fragrance of vanilla with the fresh zest of summer peaches, creating an aromatic layered delight.
